Rita was herself in a timeloop, where she honed her skills and is now training Keiji to be a great warrior as well. When Keiji dies he is thrown into a timeloop and gets to relive the same battle over and over again.Īfter many battles, he finally meets the world’s most formidable warrior, Rita Vrataski aka the Full Metal Bitch. Keiji Kiriya is just a grunt, shoved into armor to save the world from invading aliens, the Mimics. The ending is not “Hollywood happy” but very fitting for this compelling story.

I liked the way the book tells the story, the translation is great and the action is fantastic. The novel itself reads like a futuristic samurai story with a twist. When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armour. Once the protagonist gets over the shock and realization that he keeps dying, he realizes that what he does has no consequences, with the small, almost unimportant, caveat that he has to die, usually in a horrible and gruesome way, every day. The story came out of the author’s idea of living in a video game, when you fail you try again but this time with the knowledge of what will happen.
